CJP’s Saurav Das Criticises PM Modi Over ‘Dimagi Naxal’ Remark
New Delhi: A political controversy has erupted over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s use of the term “dimagi Naxals” during his Independence Day address, with CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das strongly criticising the remark.
Speaking from the Red Fort on August 15, PM Modi said that while armed Naxalism was nearing its end, the country also needed to remain alert against people with a “dimagi Naxal” mindset, whom he accused of seeking opportunities to create violence and unrest. He called for such elements to be identified and isolated while urging young people to join the mainstream.
Responding to the Prime Minister, Saurav Das questioned the use of the term for young people who raise questions about the government. He argued that simply questioning government policies should not be grounds for labelling educated youth as Naxals.
Das described the remark as a reflection of what he called arrogance and an inability to address the concerns being raised by young people. He further argued that the ongoing political awakening among the youth could not be stopped by such labels.
In a separate Independence Day message, Das said that a growing number of young people were overcoming their fear of speaking out. He described the current period as the beginning of an era of peaceful protest and claimed that people who had previously felt powerless were increasingly finding the confidence to raise their voices.
Das also alleged that attempts were being made to divide the younger generation along political lines. He called for unity among young people and said that the response to fear should be courage and collective action.
The exchange comes amid heightened political tensions surrounding youth-led protests and criticism of government policies. PM Modi’s remarks and the subsequent response from CJP have added another dimension to the wider debate over dissent, political expression and the government’s approach toward those challenging its policies.
