Tobacco Tycoon’s Son Shivam Mishra Arrested Four Days After High-Speed Lamborghini Crash in Kanpur
In a major development in the high-profile Kanpur Lamborghini crash case, Shivam Mishra — son of Uttar Pradesh-based tobacco businessman KK Mishra — was arrested on Thursday morning, four days after the luxury sports car accident that left six people injured.
According to Kanpur Police, multiple teams were formed after receiving intelligence about Mishra’s location. “We got information that he was in Kanpur. Five teams were deployed, and he has now been arrested and presented before the court,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Kanpur Central) A.K. Srivastava.
The Crash That Sparked Outrage
The incident took place on Sunday afternoon on Kanpur’s busy VIP Road when a Lamborghini Revuelto, reportedly worth over ₹10 crore, lost control while allegedly speeding.
Police said the car first rammed into an e-rickshaw before crashing into other vehicles, including two-wheelers. A parked Royal Enfield motorcycle was struck with such force that its rider was thrown nearly 10 feet away. The supercar then dragged the motorcycle for a distance before colliding with an electric pole and finally coming to a halt.
Six people sustained injuries in the accident.
The black Lamborghini, bearing a Delhi registration number, has since been seized and sent for forensic inspection.
Eyewitnesses Raise Questions
Eyewitnesses claimed that private security personnel accompanying Shivam Mishra attempted to disperse the crowd and remove him from the scene before authorities arrived, triggering public suspicion about possible interference.
Visuals that later surfaced allegedly showed Mishra being pulled out of the driver’s seat as locals recorded videos and urged others to “keep filming.”
Confusion Over Who Was Driving
The case took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when a man identified as Mohan appeared in court claiming he — not Shivam Mishra — had been driving the vehicle.
Mohan described himself as the designated driver and stated that Mishra suffered a sudden epileptic seizure moments before the crash, causing him to lose control.
“I was driving when he suddenly had a seizure and collapsed onto me. I got scared and tried to control the car with one hand,” Mohan claimed, adding that an auto-locking system delayed his exit from the vehicle.
Mishra’s family supported this version, stating that Shivam suffers from epilepsy and was not driving at the time.
However, the court declined to accept Mohan’s surrender, noting inconsistencies and the absence of the driver’s name in the initial complaint.
Police Maintain Shivam Mishra Was Driving
Investigators said preliminary findings — including video evidence — indicate Shivam Mishra was behind the wheel. His name was subsequently added to the FIR under charges of:
- Rash and negligent driving
- Endangering human life
- Causing hurt by dangerous means
Police maintained that the evidence contradicted the alternate narrative presented in court.
Allegations of Preferential Treatment
The case has also sparked allegations of police “soft-peddling” due to the family’s wealth and influence. Critics pointed out that the initial FIR mentioned “unknown persons,” and Mishra’s name was added hours later.
Following procedural lapses, the local Station House Officer, Santosh Kumar Gaur, was suspended.
Business Background Under Scrutiny
Shivam Mishra is the son of KK Mishra, owner of Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a tobacco business that has previously faced Income Tax Department action.
During searches conducted in March 2024 across Delhi and Kanpur, officials reportedly recovered luxury cars and around ₹4.5 crore in cash. Vehicles found included a Rolls-Royce Phantom, McLaren, Porsche, and the same Lamborghini involved in the crash — many bearing the identical registration number “4018.”
What Happens Next?
Shivam Mishra has been produced before the court, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are examining forensic reports, CCTV footage, and eyewitness testimonies to determine the sequence of events and fix accountability.
The incident has reignited debate over reckless driving involving high-end vehicles and whether influence can delay justice in such cases.
