Trump Says US Bombed Iran’s “Crown Jewel” Kharg Island, Military Targets ‘Totally Obliterated’
The United States has launched one of its most powerful air strikes in the ongoing Middle East conflict, with U.S. President Donald Trump claiming that American forces have “totally obliterated” military targets on Iran’s crucial oil hub Kharg Island.
In a statement shared on his social platform Truth Social, Trump said the bombing raid targeted strategic military facilities on the island, which handles nearly 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports.
“One Of The Most Powerful Bombing Raids”
Trump described the attack as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East.” However, he added that the United States deliberately avoided destroying the island’s oil infrastructure.
According to Trump, the decision was made “for reasons of decency,” but he warned that the situation could change if Iran attempts to disrupt shipping routes.
The US President said that if Iran interferes with the Strait of Hormuz, Washington could reconsider its restraint and target oil facilities as well.
Key Oil Hub Under Attack
Kharg Island plays a critical role in Iran’s energy exports. Oil pipelines from major Iranian fields feed into storage facilities on the island before crude oil is shipped to global markets.
Because of its strategic importance, analysts have long referred to the island as Iran’s economic lifeline.
Naval Escort Plan In Strait Of Hormuz
Amid rising tensions in the Gulf, Trump also announced that the U.S. Navy will soon begin escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime routes.
Nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply normally passes through this narrow shipping corridor, and recent Iranian attacks have significantly disrupted maritime traffic in the region.
War Escalates Across Middle East
As the conflict intensifies, Iran has launched fresh waves of missile and drone attacks against Israel and several Gulf countries.
Explosions were reported in multiple cities across the region, including missile interceptions in Doha and drone interceptions by air defence systems in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, protests and pro-government rallies have taken place in Tehran, where demonstrators gathered in support of Iran’s leadership.
Global Oil Markets On Edge
The escalating war has shaken global energy markets. Prices of Brent crude oil have surged by more than 40 percent, pushing oil above $100 per barrel and raising concerns about global inflation and energy supply shortages.
Humanitarian Crisis Growing
Inside Iran, the war has caused severe destruction and displacement. According to estimates by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 3 million people have been displaced since the conflict began.
Iranian authorities have also imposed an internet blackout as air strikes continue across several major cities.
