Dubai Hit Again: Explosions Heard, Smoke Seen Near Burj Khalifa After Drone Incident
Fresh explosions were reported in Dubai’s central district on Friday morning, sending shockwaves across nearby buildings and leaving a large cloud of smoke visible over the skyline. Dramatic visuals circulating online show thick black smoke rising behind several buildings with the iconic Burj Khalifa visible in the background.
According to officials, the incident occurred after authorities intercepted a suspected drone, leading to debris falling on a building in the city’s financial district.
Explosions Shake Buildings
Witnesses reported hearing a loud double blast that rattled structures across the area. An AFP correspondent present in the city confirmed that the explosions were followed by a large plume of smoke that lingered over central Dubai.
Emergency sirens were heard from the direction of Sheikh Zayed Road, one of the main highways running through the city.
Authorities Confirm Minor Damage
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Dubai Media Office confirmed that debris from the interception caused a minor incident on the exterior of a building.
Officials added that no injuries have been reported.
Police quickly cordoned off the affected area around the Dubai International Financial Centre, where the building suffered visible damage to its facade.
Earlier Drone Incident Reported
The explosions came just a day after authorities reported another “minor drone incident” in the Al Bada’a area of the city.
Officials said emergency teams responded immediately and the situation was brought under control.
Rising Regional Tensions
The incident comes amid escalating tensions across the Middle East following the outbreak of war on February 28. Several Gulf countries have experienced security threats linked to the broader conflict.
Reports indicate that attacks in the region have already resulted in 24 deaths, including seven US service members and multiple civilians.
Authorities in Dubai have assured residents that security forces remain on high alert and investigations into the latest explosion are ongoing.
