Iran Claims It Shot Down US F-18 Jet, American Military Rejects Assertion
Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran has claimed that it successfully targeted and brought down a US F-18 fighter jet, a statement that has been firmly denied by American authorities.
Iranian state-affiliated media, including Press TV, shared a video allegedly showing a fighter aircraft being struck mid-air, followed by signs of instability and possible loss of control. However, the video’s authenticity has not been independently verified, and no specific details were provided regarding the location of the incident or the condition of the pilot.
US Military Issues Immediate Denial
The claim was quickly dismissed by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which stated that no American fighter aircraft had been shot down.
“No US fighter aircraft have been downed by Iran,” CENTCOM said, labeling the claims as false.
This response comes as part of ongoing information warfare between the two sides, with conflicting narratives emerging during the escalating conflict.
Repeated Claims and Counterclaims
This is not the first such assertion by Iran. In recent days, Iranian sources have claimed to have downed multiple US aircraft, including F-15 jets, all of which were similarly rejected by American officials.
CENTCOM emphasized that US forces have conducted thousands of combat sorties in the region without losing any aircraft to Iranian attacks.
F-35 Incident Raises Questions
Separately, Iran has also claimed that it damaged a US F-35 stealth fighter jet, forcing it to make an emergency landing at a military base in the region.
US officials confirmed that an F-35 experienced an issue during a mission and landed safely, with the pilot unharmed. However, they stopped short of confirming whether the incident was caused by hostile fire.
Ongoing Conflict and Diplomatic Efforts
The developments come amid the ongoing military campaign known as Operation Epic Fury, launched by the United States in coordination with Israel. The operation aims to counter Iran’s missile systems, naval strength, and regional influence.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue despite rising hostilities. The White House has indicated that talks with Iran are still ongoing, even as tensions remain high.
US President Donald Trump has warned of strong action if negotiations fail, while Iran has reportedly rejected proposals aimed at de-escalation.
A War of Narratives
As the conflict intensifies, both sides continue to release competing claims, making independent verification increasingly difficult. Analysts suggest that such information battles are a key part of modern warfare, aimed at shaping public perception and strategic advantage.
