PM Modi Celebrates 10 Years of Startup India, Hails Innovation and Youth Power
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday marked a major milestone as India completed ten years of the Startup India initiative, calling it a celebration of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the risk-taking spirit of the country’s youth.
Extending greetings on National Startup Day, the Prime Minister congratulated entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, and all stakeholders associated with India’s growing startup ecosystem. In a message shared on social media, PM Modi said the completion of a decade reflects the courage and creativity of Indian innovators who have helped position the country as a global startup hub.
He emphasised that India’s young entrepreneurs have played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s rise in the global startup landscape, driven by innovation and problem-solving capabilities.
Highlighting policy reforms, the Prime Minister said that structural changes introduced over the years have created a supportive environment for startups to explore sectors that were once considered challenging, including space, defence, and deep technology.
PM Modi also underlined the contribution of startups to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, stating that young innovators are increasingly becoming job creators rather than job seekers. He acknowledged the crucial role played by investors, incubators, academic institutions, and mentors in nurturing innovation and supporting entrepreneurial growth.
The Startup India programme, launched on January 16, 2016, was aimed at building a robust ecosystem for innovation, promoting entrepreneurship, and encouraging investment-driven economic growth across the country.
Over the past decade, Startup India has emerged as a cornerstone of India’s economic and innovation framework. The initiative has strengthened institutional support systems, expanded access to funding and mentorship, and enabled startups to scale across sectors and regions.
According to official data, India now has over 2 lakh recognised startups, making it one of the world’s fastest-growing startup ecosystems. These enterprises have significantly contributed to employment generation, technological advancement, and the strengthening of domestic value chains across diverse industries.
