Pregnant Delhi Police SWAT Commando Dies After Brutal Assault at Home; Husband Arrested

A 27-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando, who was four months pregnant, died after allegedly being assaulted by her husband at their residence in west Delhi, police officials confirmed. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns over domestic violence, even within law enforcement families.

The victim, identified as Kajal Chaudhary, was posted with the Special Cell of Delhi Police. The alleged assault occurred on January 22 at the couple’s rented accommodation in Mohan Garden. Kajal succumbed to her injuries on January 27 after battling for her life for five days at a hospital in Ghaziabad.

Brother Recounts Disturbing Phone Call

Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, told investigators that he was on a phone call during the incident. According to him, the accused, Ankur—Kajal’s husband and a clerk with the Ministry of Defence—had contacted him shortly before the assault.

Nikhil stated that during the call, he heard his sister screaming before the line disconnected. He further alleged that Ankur later informed him that Kajal had died and asked the family to reach the hospital immediately.

Allegations of Prolonged Harassment

The victim’s family has accused Ankur and his relatives of subjecting Kajal to prolonged domestic abuse and dowry-related harassment, including during her pregnancy. Family members claimed that despite her condition, Kajal was forced to perform household chores and faced repeated physical and mental torture.

Her parents alleged that substantial dowry, including cash, gold jewellery, and a motorcycle, was given at the time of marriage. They also claimed that additional financial demands continued even after the wedding.

Police Investigation Underway

Police officials said preliminary findings suggest that financial stress and recurring domestic disputes may have contributed to the incident. According to investigators, Kajal sustained severe head injuries during the assault, allegedly involving a blunt object.

A case was initially registered for attempt to murder at Mohan Garden Police Station. Following Kajal’s death, the charges are being converted to murder. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.

Child in Family’s Care

The couple’s one-and-a-half-year-old son is currently with Kajal’s maternal grandparents. The family has stated that they intend to raise the child and seek strict legal action against those responsible.

Widespread Condemnation

The incident has triggered strong reactions across the city, with calls for swift justice and stricter enforcement of laws against domestic violence. Senior police officials have assured that the case will be handled with sensitivity and urgency.
