Pakistan Dressing Room “Disappointed” After Heavy Loss To India In T20 World Cup

Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson admitted that his team was left deeply disappointed after a crushing defeat to arch-rivals India national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the emotional weight of the contest was clearly visible inside the dressing room.

Pakistan went down by 61 runs at R. Premadasa Stadium, a result that has significantly dented the campaign of the Pakistan national cricket team in the group stage.

“We Got Outplayed,” Says Hesson

Reflecting on the loss, Hesson acknowledged that matches between India and Pakistan carry enormous expectations and pressure. He said players were aware of the significance of the encounter and felt the setback strongly, but conceded that India performed better in all departments.

India Recover Strongly After Early Blow

India posted a competitive total of 175/7 despite losing an early wicket, thanks largely to a brilliant innings by Ishan Kishan, who scored 77 and anchored the recovery. His counter-attacking approach shifted momentum firmly in India’s favour and laid the foundation for a challenging total.

Pakistan’s Chase Falters Early

Pakistan’s batting struggled under scoreboard pressure, with India’s pace attack striking quickly. Jasprit Bumrah led the charge with crucial early breakthroughs, leaving Pakistan reeling at 13/3.
Despite some resistance from the middle order, the team was eventually bowled out for 114 in 18 overs.

Tactical Gamble Didn’t Pay Off

Pakistan had opted to bowl first, expecting favourable conditions for their bowlers. Hesson explained that the pitch initially offered assistance, but India’s middle-order acceleration neutralised any advantage and took the game away.

Tournament Implications

India’s third straight victory confirmed their qualification for the Super Eights, while Pakistan now face a must-win situation in their remaining group fixture to stay alive in the tournament.

The defeat also extended Pakistan’s difficult record against India in ICC events, underlining the psychological challenge of one of cricket’s most intense rivalries.

Focus Now On Quick Recovery

Hesson urged his players to regroup quickly, emphasising that the team had shown good form leading into the World Cup and still had the ability to bounce back.

“We have to pick ourselves up in the next couple of days,” he said, expressing confidence that Pakistan can respond positively and keep their campaign on track.
