‘Old Generation Should Step Aside’: Nitin Gadkari Calls for Youth to Take Charge in Leadership Transition

Old Generation Should Step Aside

New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday strongly advocated for a generational shift in leadership, urging senior leaders to gradually step aside and allow younger individuals to take responsibility once systems begin functioning smoothly.

Addressing a press conference in Nagpur ahead of the Advantage Vidarbha–Khasdar Audhyogik Mahotsav, Gadkari said leadership transitions should happen naturally over time, ensuring continuity while empowering the next generation.

“I firmly believe that gradually, the generation should also change. When the vehicle starts running smoothly, we should withdraw and do some other work,” Gadkari remarked.

Focus on Youth Participation and Leadership Transition

Highlighting the role of young professionals in development initiatives, Gadkari said the industrial expo has actively involved youth in its planning and execution. He credited Ashish Kale, President of the Association for Industrial Development (AID), for conceptualising the initiative and promoting youth participation.

Referring to his long association with Kale’s family, Gadkari said it is now time for senior leaders to mentor and guide, while transferring responsibilities to the new generation.

Advantage Vidarbha Expo to Boost Regional Growth

Gadkari noted that the upcoming third edition of the Advantage Vidarbha Expo, scheduled to be held in Nagpur from February 6 to 8, aims to establish Vidarbha as a growing industrial hub.

“The objective of the three-day event is to position Vidarbha as a strong and emerging growth hub on India’s industrial map,” he said.

The expo will witness participation from industries across diverse sectors including:

  • Textiles
  • Plastics and minerals
  • Coal and aviation
  • Logistics and IT
  • Healthcare and pharmaceuticals
  • Defence and real estate
  • Renewable energy and startups

Balanced Growth Key to Economic Progress

Emphasising balanced regional development, Gadkari underlined the importance of strengthening the industrial sector, agriculture and allied activities, and the services sector simultaneously to ensure long-term economic progress.

He also highlighted Vidarbha’s strong entrepreneurial potential across multiple sectors, stating that the region is well-positioned to emerge as a major industrial and economic centre in the coming years.
